Greitens’ attorneys want investigation results delayed

Gov. Eric Greitens’ attorneys want state lawmakers to delay releasing the results of an investigation of the governor.

In a letter to a Missouri House committee, the lawyers asked to wait until a May criminal trial against Greitens is over.

ABC 17 got a copy of the letter which started off by saying, “Governor Greitens will cooperate fully with the work of this committee.”

The letter continues to say that the “governor is willing to provide testimony to the committee, as well as all necessary documentation, discovery, depositions, and other key information.”

However, the governor’s attorneys say releasing the House report before the trial could taint the jury pool. They say it is “unreasonable” to ask Greitens to testify to the committee before then.

The House investigation and trial center around a 2015 extramarital affair Greitens had. A St. Louis grand jury indicted Greitens in February on a felony invasion of privacy charge for allegedly taking a nonconsensual photo of the woman while she was partially nude.

The letter ends with, “There is no compelling reason not to allow yourselves more time to do this work right, and we respectfully submit that doing so would be in the interest of the Committee, the House of Representatives, and the people of Missouri.”
