Voters decide on Columbia school board members, $30 million bond issue
UPDATE 9:40 pm: The final election results show that Teresa Maledy and Susan Blackburn won the two school board seats and voters approved the $30 million bond issue.

ORIGINAL POST: The Columbia Board of Education is asking voters to approve a $30 million bond issue in Tuesday’s election.
The district plans to put $5 million toward building a new middle school in south Columbia. CPS hopes to break ground on the $34 million building on Sinclair Road in June.
More than $22 million of the bond money would go toward building additions and improvements, which would include an expansion to Lee Expressive Arts Elementary to get rid of seven trailers.
CPS is also hoping to invest $2.35 million in safety and security updates. Those updates include installing more cameras, protective glass window sheeting and more control systems for building doors.
Two seats on the school board are also up for grabs in Tuesday’s election. The candidates include incumbent Christine King as well as Ben Tilley, Tyler Lero, Susan Blackburn and Teresa Maledy.
