Another stealing charge filed against Columbia roofing company owner

The Boone County Prosecutor’s Office requested another stealing charge for Scott Treffert, owner of Signature Roofing, Thursday claiming he stole money from more people.

Treffert was first charged on Mar. 15 with one count of stealing. According to a probable cause statement, Treffert took more than $12,000 from the victim without doing any roofing work that was agreed upon in a written contract.

Three more victims were named in the amended complaint filed Thursday in Boone County Court.

ABC 17 News spoke to two of the alleged victims Friday. Both said they wrote Treffert a check for at least $6,000 as a deposit for the roof work, but said he never showed up and was difficult to get a hold of.

Seven complaints against Treffert have been filed with the Missouri Attorney General’s Office, dating back to Jan. 2017, claiming he took money without completing any roofing work.

A warrant for Treffert’s arrest was issued Mar. 18. Police believe he may have left Columbia and be in Florida.

Emails and phone calls to Treffert were not returned Friday.
