Emergency lane closure on North Garth at Sexton

Repairs to pavement and stormwater systems are causing part of a Columbia road to be closed.

Both lanes of Garth Avenue between Sexton Road and the circle driveway to Oak Tower were closed Friday at 8:30 a.m. for the repairs.

The pavement failed around a stormwater culvert near the intersection. It was sinking a few inches lower than it should have been. The workers are investigating the cause of it.

There are no accidents or injuries, but the city does not want to take any chances.

The time of the closure is unknown.

Motorist and non-motorized transportation users are urged to look for alternate routes.

If driving through the area, use caution in the work area.

It has been on the schedule for some time, there is a public hearing in April to replace some of the stormwater infrastructure in that intersection.
