Man charged with threatening to blow up the Phelps County Courthouse

Rolla police arrested Matthew Childers on Thursday after he was accused of making threatening comments.

According to the probable cause statement, Childers was at Pathways on East 10th Street when he said that he was going to strap on a bomb and blow the courthouse up.

Police said the Phelps County Courthouse bailiffs were notified of the threat and deputies began placing officers at the entry and exit points of the courthouse.

Childers admitted to officers that he was angry when he made the threat and he should not have made the statement.

Childers was charged with making a terrorist threat.
