Boone County deputies respond to shooting east of Columbia

Boone County Sheriff’s Department confirms deputies are investigating a shots-fired incident that happened east of Columbia.

Boone County deputies responded to I-70 Drive Northeast near Route Z around 11 p.m. Thursday.

Detectives confirm they responded to the area for reports of shots fired.

Detective Tom O’Sullivan said a woman reported to law enforcement a suspicious vehicle parked on I-70 Drive Northeast. She pulled into her residence, and started honking the horn to get the attention of her boyfriend who was inside the home. At some point, she saw a black man running from the area and heard him fire at least one bullet.

A man on scene Thursday night told ABC 17 News crews at least two people tried to break in his home. The man said when he approached them, the men ran away and tried to shoot at him.

He said he saw multiple people running from the area.

According to O’Sullivan, the homeowners are not sure why they were targeted.

Law enforcement says there was no property damage, nothing stolen and no injuries.
