Emergency repairs close intersection in central Columbia

Both lanes of Gath Avenue at Sexton Road will be closed at 8:30 a.m. Friday for emergency repairs to the stormwater system and road.

Columbia Utilities Stormwater Division said the road failed around a stormwater culvert Thursday evening near the intersection. Officials said it’s unclear at this time what caused the road to fail.

Crews plan to remove the pavement layer, inspect the culvert and make repairs Friday morning.

Officials are asking drivers to find alternate routes and use caution in the work zone. It’s unknown how long the closure will last.

The stormwater division said detours for GoCOMO bus routes will be sent Friday morning.
