Woman charged after officers find more than 40 stolen items, drugs in car

A woman has been charged with stealing after officers found multiple stolen items in a car.

Boonville police said they were dispatched to the 500 block of West Ashley Road on March 15 for reports of people stealing.

When officers made contact with the suspect’s vehicle they found 44 stolen items from Dollar General which totaled $119.55.

Police said they also found multiple other stolen items from Lowes, Wal-Mart and a Dollar General in Columbia.

During the vehicle search, officers saw Heather Piatt try to bury two baggies and drug paraphernalia. The baggies contained .4 grams of marijuana and 1.4 grams of methamphetamine.

Piatt was charged with possession of a controlled substance, stealing, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution.

According to public jail records, Piatt is currently in the Cole County Jail.
