Camden County deputies searching for registered sex offender

Camden County deputies are searching for a registered sex offender who failed to check in with authorities.

Shawn Avery was convicted of sexual assault of a 14-18 year-old in March of 1998.

Officers said Avery is required to register with law enforcement every 90 days and is also required to verify his address with the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Deputies said they were alerted that Avery was last registered on Oct. 17 and was supposed to register again on Jan. 31, but failed to do so. Because he did not register, he is in violation of the Sex Offender Registration Act.

Officers said they attempted to reach Avery but his phone had been disconnected and his mother claimed she had not seen him since November.

According to the sex offender registry, Avery has not registered with any other counties or states and has not filed for a change of address.

Avery currently has an active absconder warrant and an active warrant out of Cole County for tampering in the first degree. He has now been charged with failing to register as a sex offender.
