Jefferson City police arrest man accused of misusing 911

Jefferson City police arrested John Bettencourt after officers responded to the 2300 block of Bluebird Drive for reports of someone misusing 911.

According to the probable cause statement, Bettencourt requested officers kick in his door because he locked himself outside. Communications operators advised him that officers would respond to help him and to stop calling 911, unless it was an emergency.

Officers said Bettencourt continued to dial 911.

Police said they responded to Bettencourt’s house and tried to help him get inside but he refused to listen to officers.

Bettencourt was accused of telling the officers to kick in his door, but they were unable to do so.

Less than a minute after officers left Bettencourt’s house, he called 911 again to tell operators that the police were worthless.

Bettencourt was charged with misusing 911.
