Galloway begins audit on Callaway County Collector’s office

Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway announced on Tuesday that her office has begun an audit of the Callaway County Collector’s Office.

ABC 17 previously reported that Callaway County Collector Pam Oestreich resigned on March 15 because of her involvement in suspicious activity on a Callaway County checking account she maintained.

“I appreciate the quick action of Callaway County officials to request that my office begin this audit and get answers for taxpayers on the use of public resources within the county collector’s office,” Auditor Galloway said. “We will conduct a thorough review, fully investigate any area of concern and work closely with law enforcement officials.”

Missouri law requires an audit be performed when a vacancy occurs in a county collector office, but stipulates that the audit begins after a new collector takes office.

Galloway and the Callaway County Commission worked to ensure an audit began in an expedited timeframe.
