Jefferson City police arrest woman accused of trying to pass fraudulent prescription

Jefferson City police arrested Desirae Cook on Friday after officers were dispatched to the 200 block of East High Street for reports of a person trying to fraudulently get a controlled substance.

According to the probable cause statement, Cook tried to get a prescription for Roxicodone with a fraudulent prescription.

Police said the pharmacy employees were alerted to a possible fraudulent prescription because it matched with previous indicators of fraud they have encountered recently.

The pharmacy employees said the prescription looked fraudulent because the patient was local to Jefferson City but the doctor was in St. Louis and it was a new patient prescription.

The prescription also showed the word “Void” in watermark.

Cook was accused of not being able to correctly answer questions asked by the pharmacist.

Police said when they made contact with Cook, she gave officers a false name and claimed the prescription was for her aunt.

According to the probable cause statement, Cook was not cooperative with any information on where the prescription came from.

Cook was charged with fraudulently attempting to obtain a controlled substance.
