“March for Our Lives” in Columbia draws hundreds

Columbia students, along with hundreds of others across the nation, organized a local “March for Our Lives” to show support for strengthening gun regulations and ending school shootings.

The march, sparked by the survivors of the February shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, drew hundreds to the columns on the University of Missouri’s campus. After walking down Eighth Street to the columns at the county courthouse, several students and others spoke about their mission.

Rock Bridge High School sophomore Rachael Erickson, 15, spoke specifically to Missouri lawmakers.

“State Senator [Caleb] Rowden, a few weeks ago when I visited you at the state capitol you told me our current level of school safety and our current gun control measures are good enough,” Erickson, who was one of the event’s organizers, said. “Do your job!”

The march went smoothly, as well. According to a Columbia police sergeant, no arrests were made during the event.
