Man arrested after grabbing deputy’s gun, trying to shoot him

Warren County deputies arrested Jason Green early Thursday morning after officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 700 block of Smith Street in Truesdale for reports of loud noises in the area.

The reporting party stated there were people partying outside of her door, causing a disturbance.

One officer arrived on scene and made contact with one woman and three men. The deputy said the group seemed to have been drinking and appeared to be intoxicated.

Green was accused of coming outside, becoming agitated and yelling profanities at the officer.

The deputy said Green started attacking him and threatened to shoot him.

During the attack, Green was able to grab the officer’s gun and attempt to shoot him in the head. The deputy was able to grab the barrel of the gun and tried to keep the muzzle pointed away from him.

Officers said Green did shoot the gun, causing a bullet to go through a nearby apartment door and wall.

The deputy was able to knock the gun from Green’s hand and a bystander tried to help in the situation by getting the gun away from Green.

Additional officers arrived on scene and Green was taken into custody.

The officer said that during the fight, Green had punched, kicked, bitten and tried to shoot him.

The sheriff said that if “this incident had happened further out in the county where back-up would have taken longer to arrive, the situation may have had a tragic ending.”

The sheriff also thanked the bystander who tried to help the deputy.

Officers said Green was a convicted felon and had a lengthy criminal history. He faces charges for assaulting a law enforcement officer, disarming a police officer and resisting arrest.

Green is currently in the Warren County Jail and has no bond.
