New Bloomfield high school hosting “mock crash” event
The superintendent for the New Bloomfield R-III School District said the high school will be hosting a “mock crash” event where students will learn the consequences of driving drunk or distracted.
The high school student council is working with local public safety agencies to set up the event.
Superintendent Sarah Wilson said the goal of the “mock crash” is to educate teenagers about the tragedy of traffic crashes and to reinforce the importance of seat belts, paying attention behind the wheel, and to show off the consequences of drinking and driving.
Emergency vehicles will be on the campus as the event is going on. Officials for the school also alerted drivers in the area that officers will be using their sirens to make the “mock crash” feel as real as possible.
The event is scheduled for April 6 at 1:30 p.m. at the New Bloomfield High School parking lot.
