Church north of Centralia destroyed in fire

Firefighters from multiple agencies worked to put out a fire at the Friendship Christian Church north of Centralia Saturday.

Fire officials with the Little Dixie Fire Protection District said a janitor found smoke inside the church. When firefighters arrived on scene, flames were coming through the roof.

Firefighters from the Boone County Fire Protection District were called in to help put out the fire. Firefighters were still working to put out the fire as of 8 p.m. Saturday.

Fire officials said the church is considered a total loss. Investigators are working to determine what started the fire.
