Moberly police warn residents of IRS scam

Moberly police are warning residents of an IRS scam that is making its way around the community.

Police said they have received reports from citizens about phone calls from people claiming to be with the IRS and demanding money.

Officers said the IRS will never call and demand immediate payment from a citizen. Generally, the IRS will first mail a bill to any taxpayer who owes taxes.

The IRS will never threaten to bring police or other law-enforcement groups to have the taxpayers arrested. They will also never ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
