Moniteau County deputies arrest man accused of stealing
Moniteau County deputies arrested Alex Gilbert on Sunday after officers were dispatched to the 37300 block of Highway T in reference to a burglary.
The victim told officers he had several dozen items stolen from his residence with a total value in excess of $10,000. The victim described one of the stolen items as a trombone.
Deputies later responded to Highway 5 to assist troopers on a traffic stop where Gilbert was the driver. During the stop, a trombone was found in the car.
At first, Gilbert said he “found” the trombone near a garbage can but then later told officers he was contacted by a friend who said he could have trombone and a few video games.
Officers said they found more of the reported stolen items in Gilbert’s car including a gym bag, a chest, razor blades, mouthwash, Q-tips, video games, a vehicle part and body wash.
Gilbert changed his story again and admitted to driving up to a residence, breaking the glass, entering the house and stealing the items. Gilbert said he acted alone and sold some of the items.
Gilbert was charged with stealing and burglary. According to public jail records, Gilbert is currently in the Moniteau County Jail.
