Columbia police take one into custody after attempted car jacking

UPDATE 3/1 5:30 pm: Blocker was charged with attempting a kidnapping, attempting to tamper with motor vehicle and resisting or interfering with arrest.

Blocker has a bond set at $500,000. He is not allowed on the premises of Walmart or Best Buy.

UPDATE 3/1: Columbia police arrested Tramell Blocker after a car-jacking incident on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said they initially received a report of theft at the Walmart Supercenter on Grindstone Parkway. Blocker was accused of entering the store, getting electronics and equipment, putting them in a cart and passing all points of sale.

Officers said an employee tried to confront Blocker, but Blocker threatened the worker, left the store and fled the area in a car.

Police said they saw the car on Providence Road at Broadway and conducted a traffic stop.

Blocker was accused of getting out of the car, disregarding the officers and running.

Blocker attempted to enter the driver’s side door of an occupied car in the area.

The occupant of the vehicle told officers that Blocker pulled on her arm and her neck while trying to open the door from the inside.

Police said they deployed pepper spray in the direction of Blocker. He once again fled on foot but was eventually arrested.

Blocker faces possible charges of kidnapping, tampering, resisting arrest, stealing, assault, trespassing and has five outstanding felonies.

ORIGINAL STORY: Columbia police have taken one person into custody after an attempted car jacking on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said at least one suspect attempted to car jack a woman in the Re-Max parking lot on Broadway.

Officers said they had to use pepper spray on the suspect.

No injuries were reported and the scene is clear.
