Tracking strong storms Sunday
TODAY: A Weather Alert Day is in effect for potentially severe storms Sunday - read more details here. A cold front arrives midmorning, bringing thunderstorms into Chariton, Saline, and Macon counties from the northwest. Initially heavy downpours will be the main threat before storms possibly strengthen as they head south. Those south of I-70 will be at risk of seeing damaging winds and hail and the severe risk increases further towards the Lake of the Ozarks and I-44 early afternoon. Storms finally pull out and the severe risk diminishes this evening, clearing skies in time for a lunar eclipse.
TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and dry with highs in the mid-upper 70s.
EXTENDED: Totality for the lunar eclipse this evening will occur from 10:30 p.m. to midnight. Despite the brief break on Monday, an active pattern is in store for the workweek ahead. Tuesday, a chance for storms returns in the evening and lingers into Wednesday. Overall, Wednesday and Thursday are drier, with lesser chances for rain. We're back on the warm up Wednesday, with temperatures climbing into the 80s through the end of the workweek. A cold front then brings a cool down and another chance for storms Friday night.
