Active weather pattern to bring beneficial rain to Mid-Missouri

TODAY: Dust of that umbrella, as an active weather pattern is shaping up to bring beneficial rain to Mid-Missouri. The morning showers and storms we saw across the region are slowly tapering off and mainly confined near Interstate 44. This rain won’t move much through the afternoon hours as a nearly stationary boundary is draped across the Midwest. Outside of scattered showers this afternoon, it will be a mild day. Temperatures will top out in the upper 60s, with winds out of the south up to 20 mph, gusting up to 30. Any rainfall accumulations we see through the day will amount to less than an inch in most spots.

TONIGHT: As winds hold breezy out of the south, overnight lows won’t drop much as temperatures remain near 60 degrees by morning. Widespread showers and storms is expected through the evening, as an upper level disturbance sweeps through the region. Most of the activity during the day was situated near I-44, with the activity by this evening focusing on the I-70 corridor. Heavy rain is possible, with a few embedded thunderstorms through the night. Any rain we see will be beneficial to the region and will likely amount to less than an inch.

EXTENDED: We should see heavy rainfall increase across the area into early Tuesday. A few storms will likely be present as well during the day. Rain will be the heaviest along and south of Interstate 70, where an additional 1-2 inches of rain is likely. The rain comes as a cold front slowly begins to track through Mid-Missouri, bringing the chance for some freezing rain by early Wednesday morning. Rain accumulations will likely amount to an inch north of I-70, with areas south seeing 2-4 inches of rain. By early Wednesday morning, the chance for freezing rain and sleet looks spotty, but we could see some impacts to the roads on Wednesday as highs only reach into the low 30s. Temperatures will rebound into the 40s Thursday and continuing to warm through the end of the week. By Friday, another shot of rain is possible across the area. With all the rain, there are some flooding concerns this week, especially where we see the heaviest rainfalls set up to the southeast. The beneficial rain could total as much as 5 inches by the start of next week, which would significantly help the drought.
