Boone County inmate charged with hiding makeshift weapon

A Boone County Jail inmate has been charged with delivery or possession of a weapon at a jail after detention officers found a makeshift weapon.

According to the probable cause statement, a makeshift weapon made of folded paper, string and a small piece of concrete was passed among six inmates.

One inmate said the weapon was possibly a “shank.”

James Troy admitted to deputies that he helped hide the weapon because it was contraband.

Officers said all six of the inmates claimed they did not know what the item was but knew it was prohibited.
