Tracking near-record heat with a stationary high this week

Tonight: Winds remain stronger out of the southeast tonight sustained at 10-15 mpg with gusts up to 25 mph possible. The overnight low bottoms out into the mid-60s with mostly clear skies.

Tomorrow: Strong winds remain in Mid-Missouri with gusts up to 32 mph possible. Skies remain mostly clear as afternoon highs soar to 90 degrees. The heat index climbs to the mid-90s with increased humidity.

Extended: Highs begin to surpass 90 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday possibly breaking the long-standing records for early May. This week brings plenty of sunshine as a high pressure system sets up overhead blocking incoming fronts from moving. The heat index climbs near 100 Tuesday making for unseasonably warm temperatures. Next weekend chances of showers and storms begin to increase with the high pressure system finally pushing off to the east.
