MoDOT hosts public discussion on Providence Road sidewalk renovations

If everything goes according to plan, sidewalks and crosswalks will be renovated on Providence Road by Fall of this year, according to a Missouri Department of Transportation project manager.

MoDOT plans spend about $900,000 on the project, which would satisfy the standards defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The area of construction spans Route K up to Vandiver Drive, with the majority falling between Stadium Drive to Worley Street.

Michael Dusenberg, a transportation project manager with MoDOT, says they are in the “early stages” of contacting property owners affected by the construction.

He says their procedure typically is to acquire temporary easements for the segments of property they plan on having improved, which allows workers to be stationed on a business owner or resident’s property without penalty.

“[Property owners] understand what we’re trying to do,” Dusenberg said. “They are usually more than willing to work with us.”

However, if a property owner does not grant a temporary easement it’s possible workers will need shut down a lane of the road for the space, according to Dusenberg.

The renovated crosswalks will be equipped with elements friendly to pedestrians with visual and hearing disabilities.
