Columbia police announce second round of active shooter training courses

Columbia police announced on Tuesday that officers will host two more training sessions related to active shooter/ violent intruder response on April 21.

Police said the training sessions are free and are open to local leaders of churches, schools, hospitals, businesses, and other organizations. Pre-registration is required.

Officers said the department received a lot of interest in the first training session and got requests for additional ones.

The training sessions will be held at the CPD Regional Training Center at 5001 E. Meyer Industrial Drive in Columbia.

The first session will be from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and the second session will be from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Sgt. Mike Hestir and Officer Jeff Forck will facilitate the sessions.

Each session will cover the same material presented at the first round of sessions.

Those who attend will learn the process of planning for and reacting to an armed intruder, and the decision making process citizens may have to use in a crisis where they are the target.

Each session can accommodate 65 participants.

To pre-register, click here or call the department at (573) 817-5016.
