Jefferson City police arrest wanted man after foot pursuit

Jefferson City police arrested Mitchell Mason on Thursday after officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Clark Avenue.

According to the probable cause statement, Mason was believed to be connected to a theft from Dillard’s and had a warrant out for his arrest.

Police said they spotted Mason walking eastbound in the 1400 block of East Elm Street. Officers attempted to stop him, but he refused and continued to walk.

Officers said they gave Mason further commands to show his hands and get on the ground but he only turned at officers, smiled and put his hand in his waistband.

A foot pursuit ensued as Mason ran northbound on to Highway 5063, forcing cars to slam on their breaks to try and avoid hitting him.

Mason was eventually taken into custody and officers found a stolen gun on his person.

Mason was charged with resisting arrest and receiving stolen property.
