Storms Sunday night, severe threat update

The Marginal Severe Risk has been expanded to include all of Mid-Missouri for Sunday evening and night. The main severe threat is isolated damaging wind up to 60 mph.

Warm,moist air is surging north ahead of a storm system winding up in Kansas which will slowly move to the northeast across northern Missouri by Monday morning. The atmosphere ahead of this system will become increasingly unstable through the day with showers and t-storms developing ahead of a dryline across eastern Oklahoma to northwest Arkansas. These storms will track to the northeast, reaching our far south-southwestern counties by 7 PM, spreading the north and east by late-evening.

Instability will be low but with ample moisture and wind shear, isolated severe storms are possible with wind gusts to 60 mph. Severe hail (1 inch or greater) is not expected but small hail is possible. The tornado threat is very low with a higher risk farther south in southern Missouri and Arkansas. Storms will gradually shift to the east and move out of Mid-Missouri by 5 AM.Rainfall amounts of a quarter to half inch will be most likely but higher amounts to one inch are possible near I-44 and south.
