Columbia police arrest man after finding almost 60 grams of marijuana

UPDATE 1/19: Shahid was charged with delivery of a controlled substance.

ORIGINAL STORY: Columbia police arrested Damariay Shahid on Thursday morning after officers were dispatched to the area of Anderson and Worley Street to check on a subject.

Police said they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from Shahid’s car.

Shahid was accused of initially giving officers a fake name but eventually gave his real one.

Officers said Shahid had outstanding warrants for his arrest for failing to provide insurance, a hit and run and trespassing.

Police said they searched Shahid’s car and found 57.64 grams of marijuana, an electronic scale and over $200 in cash.

Shahid faces possible charges of obstructing government operations and unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.
