MODOT scheduled to hold meeting on Route 54 safety improvements

Missouri Department of Transportation officials announced on Friday that they will hold a public meeting to present proposed safety improvements along U.S. Route 54 in Camden County.

The meeting will be on Jan. 30 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the City Council chambers of Osage Beach City Hall in the 1000 block of City Parkway in Osage Beach.

A spokesperson for MODOT said staff will be available to explain the project details and answer questions.

The project is expected to increase safety at the intersections located between Cecil Street in Camdenton and Route KK in Osage Beach.

The project also proposes J-turn movements for certain intersections and the installation of guard cables along Route 54.

The spokesperson said the guard cables were one of the recommendations from a road safety audit performed in 2016 that examined wrong-way, cross-median and curve crashes on Route 54.

MODOT crews have already put some safety measures into place, including additional wrong way and do not enter signs and high friction surface treatments.
