Car catches fire after driver tries to warm it up, Columbia firefighters say

Columbia firefighters said they responded to reports of a vehicle fire around 7 a.m. in the 2300 block of Windmill Court.

Firefighters said when they arrived at the scene a car was fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters said it took them about 10 minutes to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters at the scene told ABC 17 News crews that the driver went to warm up the car before heading out in the morning and went back inside their residence. They said when the driver came back outside, the car was smoking.

Columbia Water and Light crews were also called to the scene to check for damage because the car fire was close to a utility pole, firefighters said.
