Dangerous cold for the morning commute

***WIND CHILL ADVISORY IN EFFECT THROUGH NOON TODAY***

TUESDAY: A frigid start to the day with clear skies is expected. You’ll want to bundle up appropriately as you head out the doors, as temperatures will drop below freezing through the early morning hours. On top of that, a steady breeze up to 10 mph will produce dangerous wind chills. Feels like temperatures will drop towards -25 degrees. Wind chills will slightly improve through the day, rising to -5 by the afternoon hours. Clouds will increase from north to south through the afternoon leading to partly cloudy skies. Highs will top out near 11 degrees, with winds out of the northwest up to 15 mph.

TONIGHT: It will be another chilly night to say the least as temperatures drop back into the low single digits by Wednesday morning under partly cloudy skies. Luckily, winds out of the northwest will be a little bit calmer, from 5-7 mph. This will still create for bitterly cold wind chills as they drop towards -5 degrees, but better than what we saw this morning.

EXTENDED: Sunshine returns by Wednesday, with slight improvements expected. Highs will top out in the lower 20s, but with snow pack still expected, we could see many areas only stay in the upper teens. Thanks to the Arctic high shifting to the east, we’ll see a light southerly wind by Wednesday into Thursday, this will start what will bring the return of temperatures above freezing. Highs top out in the 40s both Thursday and Friday with windy conditions expected, ahead of our next system that will begin to take shape and arrive by next week. Saturday looks to be the warmest day of the next 7, with highs topping out in the mid to upper 50s. At the start of next week, our next system will sweep through Mid-Missouri and bring some much needed rain. There is a slight chance we could see a few flurries into Monday, but overall it’s looking like we’ll see a mainly rain event.
