Bitter cold night expected, with wind chill values near -25
***WIND CHILL ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM MONDAY THROUGH NOON TUESDAY***
TONIGHT: A bitter cold night expected across Mid-Missouri, with temperatures falling near -2 in many spots. With brisk northwesterly winds up to 16 mph and gusts as high as 20 mph, wind chill values will be in the -15 to -25 degree range. Increasing clouds through the night will keep temperatures from falling as low as they would on a clear night, but it will still be dangerously cold across the region. Residential roads as well as roads that aren’t treated as well will stay on the frozen side through the night, so travel cautiously.
TUESDAY: A frigid start to the day under cloudy skies is expected. You’ll want to bundle up appropriately as you head out the doors, as temperatures will remain in the single digits through the morning hours. Wind chills will slightly improve through the day to -5 by the afternoon hours. With overcast skies expected, a few flurries can’t be ruled out, but the main impacts will be the bitter cold and breezy conditions. Highs will top out near 11 degrees, with winds out of the northwest up to 15 mph.
EXTENDED: Sunshine returns by Wednesday, with slight improvements expected. Highs will top out in the lower 20s, but with snow pack still expected, we could see many areas only stay in the upper teens. Thanks to the Arctic high shifting to the east, we’ll see a light southerly wind by Wednesday into Thursday, this will start what will bring the return of temperatures above freezing. Highs top out in the 40s both Thursday and Friday with windy conditions expected, ahead of our next system that will begin to take shape and arrive by next week. Saturday looks to be the warmest day of the next 7, with highs topping out in the mid to upper 50s. At the start of next week, our next system will sweep through Mid-Missouri and bring some much needed rain. There is a slight chance we could see a few flurries into Monday, but overall it’s looking like we’ll see a mainly rain event.
