Benton County deputies arrest man accused of shooting, killing another man

Benton County deputies arrested William Heffernan, 21, after officers responded to a possible shooting victim on Friday night at a mobile home park in the 19000 block of Zion Church Road.

Deputies said when they arrived on scene they saw Heffernan and Caleb Shephard, 27, with an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Shephard was treated for his injuries but later died, officers said.

Deputies said after their investigation, they arrested Heffernan for the shooting and death of Shephard.

Heffernan was charged with murder in the second degree, armed criminal action and tampering with evidence. He currently has a bond of $100,000.

Officers said the investigation is ongoing.
