Jefferson City police reports second attempted child abduction near West Elementary

Jefferson City police said they are investigating an attempted child abduction that happened Friday afternoon.

Police said they were called to a home for a report of a possible attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl that happened after school was released Friday.

After preliminary investigation, police said the intended victim was walking home from West Elementary School when she was approached by a man. They said the man tried to pull the girl into his vehicle.

The girl told police she kicked the man several times and was able to run away to her home, police said.

Police said the man was described as white, approximately 5 feet and 7-8 inches tall, middle-aged, clean-shaven. He wore jeans and a dark-colored shirt and had a close haircut and sandy blonde or light-colored hair. The man was driving a dark blue passenger car.

The girl was not harmed during the incident, police said.

Police said detectives are actively investigating the incident and ask that anyone with information to contact detectives at 573-634-6400.

As new information develops, it will be released, police said.

The incident is the second reported attempted child abduction near West Elementary within two months. Jefferson City police offered a $500 Crimestoppers reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. At last check, no one has been arrested for the first incident.
