Suspects charged after woman shot five times in north Columbia

Twenty-four-year-old Jasmine Ford and 31-year-old Barry “Ro” Brown are now facing charges of armed criminal action, assault and kidnapping being they’re accused of shooting a woman five times Thursday morning.

Police confirmed their arrest Friday morning.

According to court documents, Ford and Brown sublease an apartment at Woodlake Apartments from Brown’s mother.

Police didn’t indicate how the victim knew Ford and Brown but said the victim’s son told them the pair had been with his mother earlier in the evening.

The victim said Brown offered her money to perform a sexual act and that when she tried to leave, they started assaulting her. She said they dragged her into the bathroom to “kill her.” Brown allegedly put the gun to her neck and shot her.

Ford and Brown said that the victim and Ford got into a fight inside the apartment. Ford said she shot the victim in self-defense. Ford and Brown said they then fled and put the gun in Ford’s purse.

The victim then went across to another apartment building for help.

Court documents indicate an officer on his way to the scene came across Brown and Ford walking on Clark Lane. He questioned them because Brown had blood on his shirt but neither mentioned a shooting so they were not taken into custody at the time.

Police said Brown bought a new shirt at Ragtag Cinema and hid his bloody shirt in a laundry bin at Motel 6.

Both Brown and Ford are being held without bail because they are a “threat to the victim and public safety,” according to court documents.
