Bitter cold air returns to Mid-Missouri

FRIDAY: It’s a breezy and cold afternoon across Mid-Missouri, as winds are out of the northeast up to 20 mph. Wind chill values are 5 to 10 degrees below 0 this afternoon and will improve some as winds die down through the day. Highs climb into the lower 20s this afternoon under plenty of sunshine.

TONIGHT: It will be another cold night as winds remain breezy out of the north up to 15 mph, with wind chill values as low as -10. Actual air temperatures will fall to 10 degrees through the night under mostly cloudy skies.

EXTENDED: The Arctic air will stick around through the weekend, keeping high temperatures in the low 20s Saturday and lows in the single digits Saturday night with partly cloudy skies. We are watching a couple fast moving areas of low pressure which will move through this weekend. The first of these “Clippers” will move through early Saturday but won’t have enough moisture to produce snow as it moves into Mid-Missouri. The other which moves through Sunday could allow for some light snow across Mid-Missouri with a possible dusting to an inch of snow. There is also a chance of brief light snow or flurries Monday morning. Temperatures will stay below freezing through next Wednesday with slowly warming temperatures possible late in the week.
