City of Columbia files for former police officer to produce requested documents regarding assault

The City of Columbia filed a motion to compel on Monday against former police officer, Rob Sanders, who is suing the city to be reinstated.

Rob Sanders was fired after being accused of shoving inmate Kenneth Baker in a holding cell back in 2011. He was charged with assault before being acquitted in 2013 and is suing the city of Columbia for wrongful termination.

In the court documents, the city claims that Sanders failed to provide any of the requested information or documentation regarding evidence of his claims or alleged damages.

Lawyers for the city claim that Sanders still needs to produce the documentation regarding his attempts to mitigate his damages that was requested from him almost a year ago.

Court documents state that the assault forms the basis of Sanders’s lawsuit and the city is entitled to relevant documents regarding the criminal trial for the assault.

The city believes that Sanders’s objections are without merit and partially defy the court’s order.

The city requests the court enter an order requiring Sanders to fully comply with the city’s discovery requests before Jan. 19.
