Patchy fog through the day, with slow warming
TUESDAY: Fog is slowly lifting this afternoon across Mid-Missouri, but with surface temperatures still near freezing, freezing fog is still likely. The patchy fog will last through the afternoon hours under a dense layer of clouds. Even with the clouds, southeasterly winds should warm us into the 40s through the day. Expect the winds to become breezy as we head through the night, as the pressure gradient tightens ahead of a strong cold front.
TONIGHT: With low level moisture remaining in place mid-Missouri could see continued fog through the overnight hours. No freezy fog is expected, as lows will only fall to near 40 degrees across Mid-Missouri. We’ll see the winds quite breezy out of the southeast up to 18 mph. Some patchy drizzle is possible through the overnight hours.
EXTENDED: Wednesday will be the warmest day to get out and about with highs in the mid 50s for most of us with a few spots reaching towards 60. Patchy drizzle can’t be ruled out through the early morning hours Wednesday, but most locations will stay dry and breezy ahead of our next cold front. This cold front will bring the best chance for rain by Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon. Temperatures Wednesday night will remain above freezing so any precipitation will start off as rain. A strong cold front will track through the area by early Thursday, which will usher in drastically colder temperatures for the afternoon. Thursday’s high of 51 degrees will occur during the morning hours as temps drop below freezing through the day, which will allow any rain to transition to a wintry mix into the afternoon hours. Any accumulation of rain or wintry mix we see will likely amount to less than . 25″. Another shot of Arctic air will move in by the weekend with highs back below freezing. We are watching a Clipper System that will quickly move through the area by Friday night into Saturday morning. This could allow for some brief snow shower across Mid-Missouri.
