Sunrise Beach firefighters save home after fire spreads from pump house

Sunrise Beach firefighters responded to a fire that started in a pump house and had spread to a home on the Lake of the Ozarks.

“I have seen this kind of a fire burn homes to the ground in my time in the lake area,” Sunrise Beach Chief Dennis Reilly said. “Because we were able to channel the fire out of the house through a vent in the roof, the home was saved. That speaks to method and firefighter training.”

Reilly said staffing at the second firehouse was one of the reasons why firefighters were able to respond to the fire so quickly. “The fact that they were on duty that day made a huge difference.”

The district is continuing to explore options for keeping the second fire house staffed 24/7 but for now it is staffed when personnel are available.
