Troopers respond to several weather-related crashes Sunday

Slick roads caused some issues for mid-Missouri drivers Sunday.

According to online crash reports, the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to at least six weather-related crashes across central Missouri.

Three of those crashes happened in Macon County, where parts of Highway 63 were still covered with ice or slush at 6:30 p.m.

An 80-year-old man and 82-year-old woman were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after losing control of their car on an ice-covered roadway, troopers said. The crash happened on Highway 63 near Route J around 9:15 a.m.

Weather was to blame in at least one crash in Boone County Sunday evening.

One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after a single-car crash on Highway VV just north of Columbia around 5 p.m.

A trooper on scene told ABC 17 News that the driver was going too fast for the road conditions, lost control of the car on a bridge and crashed into the bridge wall.

MoDOT trucks were called in to put down more salt on the bridge after the crash.
