Bitter cold again, with snow flurries through Friday
TONIGHT: It will be another bitter cold night across Mid-Missouri, although not as cold. Temperatures will bottom out near 10 degrees under partly cloudy skies, with wind chill values near 0. A clipper system to our north will graze parts of Mid-Missouri and bring some snow flurries through the night. A light dusting of snow is possible in Macon, Monroe, and Audrain counties through the night into Friday. Areas along and south of Hwy 50 will remain flurry free, and likely see a few clouds track through the region overnight.
FRIDAY: Outside of some AM flurries, it will just be a cold start to the day with wind chill values near 0 degrees. It’ll be another day of bundling up as you step outside, as the deep freeze across Mid-Missouri continues. With partly cloudy skies expected to stick around through the day Friday, we’ll only see highs top out near 20 degrees for a good portion of the area. Thanks to winds out of the northeast up to 10 mph, wind chill values will stay in the teens through the day. Thankfully this will be the last cold day across Mid-Missouri, ahead of a much needed warm-up.
EXTENDED: Through the night Friday, temperatures will once again fall into the single digits, as high pressure slowly slides to our southeast. This will likely lead to wind chill values below 0 degrees for parts of Mid-Missouri, with the potential for another wind chill advisory to be issued. Starting Saturday we’ll see temperatures climb into the mid to upper 20s across the region beginning our warming trend. By Saturday night, lows will occur at midnight with rising temperatures through the night. This along with a low pressure system that will track through the area will bring the potential for a wintry mix beginning as early as 5 AM west of Hwy 63 Sunday morning. The wintry mix, with the potential for freezing rain will stick around through midday Sunday, bringing with it the potential for traffic problems. By the afternoon hours, we’ll finally see temperatures climb above freezing for the region, with a changeover to rain. It’s still possible we could see some isolated areas still dealing with freezing rain, as ground temperatures are well below freezing for the region. As the system exits to our southeast by Sunday night, we could see a brief changeover to snow, followed by cooler and drier conditions to follow. Accumulation amounts will total up to 0.30″ north of I-70 to 0.75″ as you travel closer to I-44. Early next week, temperatures look to stay in the upper 30s and lower 40s, with our next shot of precipitation arriving as we head into Thursday.
