Man charged with abuse of a child after he was accused of spanking 4-year-old

A man was charged on Wednesday with abuse or neglect of a child out of Cole County.

According to the probable cause statement, Antwain Bolton was accused of causing physical injury to a 4-year-old.

Jefferson City police said the child sustained a bruised and swollen buttocks from the assault.

Bolton admitted to officers that he spanked the child with an open hand six times on his bare butt. Bolton said he was only trying to discipline the child for misbehavior and did not mean to cause any injury to the child.
