Crews respond to multiple water main breaks in Columbia area

UPDATE 9:00 p.m.: The Columbia Fire Department has responded to at least 12 reports of frozen pipe issues.

UPDATE 1:10 pm: Crews told ABC17 that they responded to at least 8 water main breaks on Tuesday morning.

Crews said the cold weather was a likely factor in the breaks.

ORIGINAL STORY: Crews responded to multiple water main breaks in the Columbia area on Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson for the city said crews responded to at least four breaks before 11 a.m.

The water main breaks were located in the 300 block of Hitt Street, the 100 block of Bicknell, the 1900 block of Bernadette and the corner of Crawford and Green Meadows.

ABC17 is reaching out to authorities to learn if the incidents are related to the cold weather.
