Cole County deputies arrest woman accused of assault and kidnapping

A Cole County woman has been charged with assault and kidnapping after deputies investigated an assault in the 5400 block of Business 50 West.

According to the probable cause statement, the physical altercation happened on Wednesday.

ABC17 previously reported that Cole County deputies were actively investigating an incident in the 5400 block of Business Street.

Deputies said family members found a female victim with a stab wound in the upper arm and multiple facial contusions.

Deputies said the victim later picked Koranda Norwood out of a photo lineup as the person she said assaulted her by punching her repeatedly in the head with closed fists.

Norwood told deputies she was unable to say who stabbed her because Norwood and Norwood’s boyfriend, Pharis Davis, were the only other people in the trailer at the time of the altercation. The victim said Davis never hit her during the altercation, but he would not allow her to leave the trailer.

According to the probable cause statement, Davis spoke with deputies and made a statement about the incident. He said the victim and Norwood were fighting while he was standing there. Davis said he was unsure how the victim got stabbed but said she and Norwood were wrestling over the knife.

Davis told deputies that Norwood would not let the victim leave the trailer but denied any participation.

Deputies said they spoke with Norwood on Monday. Norwood admitted there was a fight but said the victim was the aggressor and she was defending herself, deputies said.

Officers said Norwood denied that she did not let the victim leave the trailer.
