Group gathers outside City Hall to oppose GOP tax reform bill
Groups concerned about the impact of the GOP tax plan on the economy gathered in front of City Hall on Wednesday to denounce Senator Blunt’s support for the tax reform plan.
Protesters are worried about the impacts the plan might have on Mid-Missouri, in particular the House bill’s provision to tax tuition waivers of graduate students.
Eric Scott, of the Coalition of Graduate Workers, said, “At the University of Missouri, the average graduate employee will see thousands of dollars in extra taxes every year because of this proposal.”
The bill would also eliminate the $2,500 tax deduction for student-loan interest.
The protesters are urging Blunt and Senator McCaskill to vote no, and they ask that the senators work together with Representative Hartzler to craft reform that will help their constituents.
