Fulton man charged with assault and kidnapping after strangling a woman and threatening her life

Fulton police arrested a man Friday after officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in progress in the 300 block of East 10th Street.

According to the probable cause statement, the victim told officers she had gotten into a heated argument with Ricky Coffelt and he strangled her.

Police said the victim had a dark bruise on the left side of her neck which appeared to be consistent with a finger.

The victim told officers that Coffelt had injected himself with heroin earlier in the day and was refusing to let her leave when he pushed her down and strangled her.

The victim also said that Coffelt had threatened to cut her up and was afraid he was going to kill her.

Police said they searched a room and found five syringes and a spoon along with a black scale. the needles tested positive for heroin, officers said.

Coffelt admitted to police that he used the needles to inject himself with heroin.

According to the probable cause statement, Coffelt has multiple convictions for assault.

Coffelt was charged with domestic assault, kidnapping and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
