Motorcycle driver suffers serious injuries after Tuesday afternoon crash

Jefferson City police responded to a motor-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle in the southbound lanes of MO 179 and Missouri Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said a motorcycle failed to stop for a steady red light at this intersection. The motorcycle collided with a 2016 Dodge Charger which was turning north on MO 179 from Missouri Boulevard.

Emergency crews were at the scene for about 45 minutes leading to some traffic backups within the intersection.

The motorcycle driver, Jonathan Couture, was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries. The motorcycle was totaled.

The Dodge driver, Samantha Lewis was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The car was totaled.
