Car theft suspect caught on tape now faces drug, weapons charges

A man is now in custody after police believe he was the subject of several pursuits since Friday morning.

A reported car theft in progress prompted officers to respond to the Eagle Stop convenience store in the 1700 block of Providence Road just before 8 a.m. Friday.

“The male victim reported he left his vehicle running while in the store for a few minutes and the vehicle was stolen,” said Officer Latisha Stroer. “The store manager provided video surveillance which caught the theft.”

The video confirmed to police that they were looking for a red 2014 Nissan Rogue with Missouri registration.

The victim also said there was a handgun underneath the driver’s seat.

Shortly after the report by CPD, a highway patrol trooper located the SUV on Scott Boulevard, but it sped away when the trooper tried to perform a traffic stop.

Police said the vehicle was seen again in a driveway on Georgetown Drive.

A witness told police that the suspect got out of the car, changed his clothes, mounted a bike and rode away.

Photos taken by the witness were emailed to CPD and allowed them to identify the suspect as 22-year-old Raymond Dalton.

Police recovered the vehicle and while the gun was not in it, police say the Dalton’s cellphone was.

A CPD officer found Dalton in the area of Salem Drive and Grandview Circle.

Dalton was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and was arrested on suspicion of unlawful for certain persons to possess a concealed weapon, felony stealing and first-degree tampering.

Police are also holding Dalton on a felony warrant for drugs, a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear on larceny and another misdemeanor warrant.

Dalton is currently in the Boone County Jail.
