Police ask for public’s help in identifying possible suspect vehicle connected to package thefts

Columbia police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a possible suspect vehicle connected to package thefts in the Columbia area.

Police said victims have reported packages stolen from at least three residences in the Spring Creek and Thornbrook neighborhoods in October.

Video surveillance obtained by ABC 17 News shows the possible suspect vehicle during daylight and evening hours.

ABC 17 News spoke with one of the victims, Tricia Rackers, who said her package was found by her neighbor, on the neighbor’s front lawn, opened. Racker’s neighbor looked through her video surveillance and found a porch pirate was in the neighborhood.

Experts say there are some things you can do to try and prevent thieves from targeting you. Try to schedule package delivery for a time when you know you’ll be home. If you can’t be there, have the package delivered to an alternative location, such as a neighbor’s house. You can also require a signature, or tell the delivery company to place the package in a spot where it cannot be seen.
