Porter Jr. to miss third straight game
COLUMBIA – Mizzou basketball’s coveted freshman Michael Porter Jr. will be out for Monday’s game against Emporia State with a leg injury.
A spokesperson for the team said, “Mizzou Men’s Basketball freshman Michael Porter, Jr. will not be available for tonight’s game vs. Emporia State. His status remains unchanged from prior announcements.”
The spokesperson added, “Porter will not be able to attend tonight’s game as he has an appointment with a specialist. Mizzou will provide further updates on Porter’s status when they become available, and have no additional information until that time.”
Porter did not travel with the team on its flight to Salt Lake City for the Tigers’ game against Utah last week. He also didn’t play in the Tigers’ game against Wagner on Nov. 13. He remained in the locker room and did not watch the game in the bench area. A MU spokesperson said it was easier on Porter’s leg to remain in the locker room.
Porter played just two minutes and scored two points against Iowa State on Nov. 10. He reportedly tweaked something in his leg at the beginning of the game and told head coach Cuonzo Martin to take him out of the game. Porter did not return to the game and sat on the bench with an ice pack on his leg.
Despite playing without Porter Jr., Mizzou has a record of 2-1. The Tigers will look for their third straight home win on Monday at 7 p.m. against Emporia State.
